About Us

The Young LA Alliance (YLAA) is an initiative that brings together a community of young professionals in Landscape Architecture who are under the age of 35. This community was created with the intention of catering to the different needs and interests of the younger working community, given the dynamic environment today.

Since its conception in 2019, the YLAA has grown to now have over 170 members worldwide – from esteemed institutions such as Columbia University and Seoul National University.

From Italy to the United States, Hong Kong to Kenya, the extensive network of YLAA members provides exciting and interesting opportunities for collaborations and knowledge exchange through targeted discussions, mentorship programmes, networking events, and volunteering opportunities.

In 2021, YLAA has pushed forward with our inaugural event of a new initiative- a quarterly International Hangout  series! In a bid to connect, engage, and spark conversations in the regional Landscape Architecture community, we kickstarted the series with 5 speakers from Singapore, Hong Kong, Colombia, Philippines and Indonesia.

 

YLAA continues to applaud all landscape architecture students and young professionals, extending a virtual pat in the back as we strive to increase the resilience of our urban and natural systems, take on today's urgent global climate challenges and Design for Tomorrow.  In summary, we discussed fresh ways to adapt, mitigate and collaborate with our industry counterparts, providing a hopeful and fresh insight amidst climate worry and the pandemic.

This 2022, we are glad to continue our work to encourage young professional landscape architects and related experts to showcase their ability in envisioning spaces for the future, taking the challenge of adapting our current and lived spaces with the fast changing world through our design competition, 
"in-SIGHT: Recreating Spaces of Today into Better, Liveable, and Comfortable Spaces for Tomorrow".
in-SIGHT encourages the young generation to aspire for the environment that they believe will help their generation in achieving greater successes and better lives. Aspirations that will be turned into imageries to better convey ideas to a broader audience, creating dialogs that may lead to that environmental development, and sparking the fire to aspire more. Experience, knowledge, and aspirations, showcased into an image, painting a thousand words.
